Cockroach Cay is a
beautiful and uninhabited virgin island of approximately 80 acres; located in the southern
part of the Berry Islands, 32 miles northwest of Nassau, 125 miles east of Miami, 20 miles
south of Great Harbour Cay's airstrip, and 2 miles northeast of Chub Cay's
airstrip. ![]()
It is in the center of the northern tip of the Tongue of the Ocean sport fishing
area and bonefish flats.
This beautiful, rugged island, has good well water sources, varies in height from 10 to 54
feet, is approximately 1/2 mile wide and 1 mile long, with a broad high ridge running the
north-south length of the island on the eastern side averaging 40 ft. in high. The Cay is
in the heart of an exceptionally fine fishing area and there is a sample draft access from
the east for most yachts using the open ocean opening between Little Whale Cay and Bond's Cay. Since the island is 2 miles from open ocean with
benfish flats adjacent to its western shore, there are several protected anchorages, and
no ocean surge. The vegetation is subtropical.
